Aubrey Jane

Photographer. Chicagoan. Insomniac. General silly person.

Lately I’ve been feeling really stagnant as a photographer.  I’ve been getting good gigs, some paid, some not but every week I’m shooting something (however, almost never my own projects.)

Last night I decided to sit down and watch some tutorials, several on using flash properly.   I’ve always just sort of “winged” it with my flash and typically got pretty good results.  The results weren’t exactly what I wanted, personally, but they looked good.  It’s always bothered me a lot, however, that I haven’t known how to properly set and utilize my flash or haven’t been able to talk flash with other photogs.  I know the basics.  I wanted to know more.  I won’t allow myself to buy new gear until I totally know the ins and outs of what I already have (I’ve already out grown my lenses, unfortunately I’m too poor to do anything about it.)

I sat down and played with it and invited my gals over for some cocktails and pizza on one condition, they let me test out what I learned.  I finally got the results I’ve been looking for.  The only photoshop used in these photos is a little blemish removal, otherwise they are untouched.

Did I mention it was really cold in my living room?
